Blast From The Past

Arena family and friends,

How about we take a break from the application process to reflect on our past events?

We officially launched this quest to get every young and woman in Kenya (and Africa eventually) into The Arena in August 2013 with our first event dubbed 'Welcome To The Arena'. It was an exciting evening, full of positive energy which gave us a glimpse into the limitless impact that this platform could have on motivating, supporting and challenging the youth. We could not have had better keynote speakers to start us off; Fr. Dominic Wamugunda, Betty Murungi, Sebastian Wafula and Andrew Macharia, we are eternally grateful.

In December 2013, we held our first event in Chepnoet Village, Eldoret. The event titled 'Neranik, Ong'eng'etie' (Young People, Let's Rise Up) was designed to inspire young people in rural areas to see beyond the village. Our speakers were Chemurai Serem (Medical School Graduate, University of Nairobi), Beda Kering (Payroll Officer, G4S Kenya), Ben Arap Ruto (representing entrepreneur David Langat), Nicholas Korir (Inflight Performance Manager, Kenya Airways), Hon. Lady Justice Rosely Korir (High Court of Kenya) and Sarah Serem (Chairperson Salaries and Remuneration Commission). We had an inspiring time learning and sharing with each other.

In August 2014, we hosted 'My Money Story' which was nothing short of an inspiring conversation between Waceke Nduati, Miss Mandi, Mike Muthiga, Chris Kirubi, Olive Gachara and the youth. They were open about their journeys; challenges and victories alike. It was a reminder to us all that possibilities are endless and we all have to start from somewhere; anywhere.

Our most recent event, 'The Arena 100' held in August 2015 was an enlightening afternoon which gave us the opportunity to discuss what it's like being a young person in Kenya today and how The Arena can best represent the youth. It was interactive, thought provoking and all together embodied the driven and positive spirit of the Kenyan youth. We received a lot of feedback and our current recruitment process is a direct result of the contributions that were made to us.

We are looking to not only grow but to involve as many people as we can in our growth.

Thank you for supporting our vision thus far, we are truly grateful!
